Miranjani Trek - Abbottabad

Miranjani is the highest peak in the Galyat Region, located at an elevation of 2,992 metres in the Namli Maira area in Ayubia National Park, 80 kilometres north of Islamabad, in the Abbottabad District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Miranjani is famous for its fantastic trek. It has an abundance of natural beauty, flowers, and natural forest.

Approach to the Starting Point:

The hike begins at the well-known church in Nathia Gali. The route leading to Governor House ahead of the church is the way to follow. There is a right downward turn just before Governor House. Then there is a T-junction where the right turn leads to Bakot forest, and the straight path leads to Abshaar road. After moving ahead a little further, another T-junction is the main starting point of the trek.

A white cottage leads to Khan Kalaan, while the straight or left path leads to Namli Maira villages and the waterfall.

Miranjani Top Trek / Hiking Track Length:

The starting altitude of the trek is about 7650 feet. From here you will hike to Miranjani Top elevated at 9660 feet. The total distance from the trek starting point to Miranjani Top is about 5 km one way. The time period to summit this peak is 3 to 3.5 hours for regular trekkers. If you are not addicted to hiking and take much more breaks on the way then it may take 5 to 6 hours. The trek nature is not too difficult but on some points it will be harder. Last ascent of Miranjani is quite tough, So we will not recommend females with non trekking experience. We advise all of you not to go alone anywhere like this unless you are well equipped, and experienced.

Best time to Trek Miranjani:

Usually, people go there throughout the year, even in winters. However, winter hikes at Miranjani can be challenging due to knee-deep snow. August and September are the best months to hike to the top.

Things to carry:

  • Food: There are no shops available at the top. Take food along and water too. It is good to have some fruits, they maintain the sugar level and provide energy during the hike.
  • Warm clothes: The winters are cold there, it is good to wear warm clothes and a jacket too. Furthermore, wearing gloves and a muffler is good too.
  • Shoes: Wear good trekkers or shoes for hiking. It will keep you comfortable and will provide a cushion. In the winters the Miranjani trek is very slippery.
  • Raincoat: It also rains a lot in the winter, so a raincoat is required to bring along.

Weather:

The weather and temperature in Miranjani are excellent in the summers and bitterly cold in the winters.

Miranjani Top Camping / Hotels / Rest Spots:

There are no camping facilities on the way to Miranjani Top. First of all, Camping is not recommended there due to the leopard area. No hotels are available during track or at top. There are 2 open spaces during the trek which can be used to sit and relax to take meals etc. or to camp even if someone has the plan to spend extra time.

Where to Stay:

A few local hotels are Alpine Hotel and Resort, Hotel Elites Nathia Gali, Summer Retreat Hotel, and Lemon Lodges.
