Wagah Border is located 27 kilometers from Lahore. Wagah is an army outpost on both the Indian and Pakistani border, between Amritsar and Lahore. The road that links the two countries is the Grand Trunk Road. Every day in the evening, especially before sunset a tremendous drill takes place. Both countries participate in this military practice which is a friendly way of showing power.
This tradition has been followed by the security forces of both countries since 1959. Border security forces from India and Pakistani rangers perform maneuvers, a form of military movement. There is a famous ritual where the guards from both ends raise their legs as high as possible, a sign of strength and supremacy. Soldiers from both sides march in discipline and change their respective flags at dusk. As the sun sets, lights are turned on and the duties of soldiers are changed.
