Indus Queen
The historic ship Indus Queen docked on the banks of the Indus River in Kot Mithan Tehsil, Rajanpur district. It is over 150 years old. And now rapidly declining due to the negligence of the authorities concerned.
The ship was built during British rule in 1867 and was owned by the Nawab of Bahawalpur. It was used to facilitate the travel of Nawab guests. The three-story ship has a galley and can prepare food for 400 guests. There are separate sections for male and female travelers.
In the past, the boat has also made it easier for locals to travel from Kot Mithan to Chacharan Sharif. Hundreds of people travel by boat from both sides of the river every day.
The statement also said that Nawab Bahawalpur Subh Sadiq presented the boat to followers of Sufi poets Kot Mithan and Ruhi Khwaja Ghulam Farid in 1917, after which it was booked to transport devotees.
After the founding of Pakistan, the Indus Queen was acquired by the Nawab family for several years and then handed over to the Highways Authority. However, the ship was not adequately cared for by the department and its condition deteriorated over time.
