The distinctive Kalash tribe in the Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, living in the three remote valleys known as Bamburet, Brir, and Rambur, is unique in many aspects. Fewer in numbers yet ambiguous by origin, the Kalash people claim to be decedents from the wandering armies of Alexander the Great. Still, at the same time, other assumptions are leading to uncertainty. Kalash people have a fair complexion resembling that of Europeans. Their Polytheist religion based on myths and superstitions, cultural values, and rituals, distinguish them from the rest of the population in the region. Their very own Kalasha language, unique architecture, adorable costumes, festivals, and natural beauty are alluring enough to attract tourists from within and outside Pakistan. The Kalash valleys are accessible by 4WD jeeps from Chitral, offering several opportunities to explore, including beautiful day hikes.
