Warsak Dam
Built on the Kabul River and financed by the Canadian government, Warsak Dam was part of the Colombo Plan. The dam, located about 20 km northwest of Peshawar in the Valley of Peshawar, was completed in two phases – the first phase was completed in 1960 and the second phase in 1980-1981. Warsak Dam has a total installed capacity of 243 MW. The dam has nine floodgates. WAPDA is in touch with Germany, France, and the European Union to get loans worth hundreds of millions of euros for the extension and up-gradation of the dam. If you want to see the power of nature being harnessed by man, Warsak Dam is just the right place. People visit Warsak Dam to see how hydroelectricity is produced. To see the power of water when it is released from spillways is an experience of a lifetime that you certainly don’t want to miss.
