Sheesh Mahal

Another masterpiece constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the Lahore Fort in 1631-1632, Sheesh Mahal, is often called 'the jewel in the Fort's crown.' Only the royal family and their most trusted advisers could use the hall. 'Sheesh Mahal,' when translated in English, means 'Crystal Palace.' However, because of the intricate mirror work put into the marble walls and ceilings, it is known as the "Palace of Mirrors" or "Hall of Mirrors." Sheesh, Mahal can fascinate its visitors, and its unique architecture and atmosphere induce a feeling of being part of the royal family all those centuries ago. People visit Sheesh Mahal to marvel at the brilliance of the Mughal architects and to experience the glory of the Mughal Empire at its peak. They not only capture this unique masterpiece in their cameras but, more importantly, in their minds.
