Shahrah-e-Faisal

One of Karachi’s busiest roads, the total length of Shahrah-e-Faisal is 18 kilometres and it extends from Hotel Metropole to Star Gate near Jinnah International Airport. Nothing can be said with certainty about the exact year of its construction, but the road is mentioned in the record of the first flight from Karachi’s airport in October 1924. The road is named after the late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles use the road daily. Pakistan Air Force Base Faisal is located on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The base was previously called RAF Drigh Road where the famous ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ (T. E. Lawrence) served between 1927 and 1928. Pakistan Air Force Museum is located on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The previous name of Shahrah-e-Faisal was Drigh Road. There are many big hotels like Embassy Inn Hotel, Regent Plaza Hotel and Convention Centre, Hotel Mehran, etc. on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Travelling on the historic Shahrah-e-Faisal is a wonderful experience, especially at night when it is brilliantly lit up. During your night journey you understand why Karachi is called ‘the city of lights’. Hundreds of thousands of people use the road daily to reach their destination and to visit Pakistan Air Force Museum.
