Mohatta Palace Museum

Built-in 1927 near Clifton by Shivratan Mohatta, a Hindu Marwari businessman from Rajasthan, as his summer home, this huge palace served the Mohattas for two decades until they moved back to India after the partition of the subcontinent in 1947. The government of Pakistan acquired the building and started using it for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1947. Mohatta Palace Museum was inaugurated in 1999. The palace has nine domes. Fatima Jinnah used the building in the 1960s and ran her presidential campaign from here. After Fatima Jinnah’s death, the ground floor was used by her sister Shireen Jinnah till her death in 1980. Perhaps the most prominent symbol of Hindu architecture in Karachi, the Mohatta Palace Museum, is a classic example of the luxurious lifestyle of affluent people before the partition of the subcontinent. Art lovers visit Mohatta Palace Museum to see different exhibitions of famous artists. Tourists visit this site to get a lesson in the rich history of the subcontinent.
