Jukhar Mound

Around six miles northwest of Larkana, the well-known mound of Jhukar is located on the right side of the road. The site was toured early in 1928 by the late Mr.N.G.Majumdar, who began an experimental investigation into the two mounds. These initial investigations produced pottery and other objects belonging to several cultures. In the lower levels, characteristics of the Harappa period were found above them. Above them lay other buildings as late as Jhukar. Majumdar was able to unearth 250 coins, some of which belong to the Kushana king Vasudeva and his successors, while the other belongs to the later Kushana of the 5th Century A. D. The mounds at Jhukar are of significant archaeological and historical value, which have produced remains from the period of Moenjodaro down to the 5th century A.D.
