Jamrud Fort
Known previously as Fatehgarh and constructed by the Sikhs after they took over Jamrud in October 1836, the famous Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa laid the fort's foundation in December 1836. Jamrud Fort is adjacent to the historic Bab-e-Khyber. The proposal to build a fort at Jamrud was initially opposed. Jamrud Fort was, incredibly, completed in just 54 days! The walls of the fort are 10 feet thick. People of different faiths have ruled the subcontinent over the centuries. A visit to Jamrud Fort introduces you to the Sikh rule and their contribution to different walks of life. People come to the ancient Jamrud Fort for various reasons, the most common of which are to learn about the fort's role in Peshawar's defense over the years and try to figure out how such a strong fort could be erected in just 54 days.
