Holy Trinity Cathedral
Located on Fatima Jinnah Road and constructed in 1855, Holy Trinity Cathedral is one of the earliest big churches in Karachi. John Hill, captain of the Bombay Engineers, designed the cathedral. Holy Trinity Cathedral’s original tower was much taller, but the top two stories were removed in 1904 when signs of weakness were detected at the foundation. In the absence of lighthouses, beacons were placed at the cathedral’s tower to guide ships in the Karachi Harbour. As a tribute to British soldiers who lost their lives in different battles, their names and history are written on plaques. A visit to Holy Trinity Cathedral is a sobering experience besides being a spiritual one. Christians go to the cathedral to pray, but visitors also go to the cathedral to get some peace of mind and admire its architecture.
