Gurudwara Bhai Joga Singh

Peshawar's Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh is located in the Jogan Shah locality of Namak Mandi. When Peshawar was a part of the Sikh Kingdom, Hari Singh Nalwa (Maharaja Ranjit Singh's renowned General) built the Gurdwara. It is named after Bhai Joga Singh, a young Gursikh who spent several years in Guru Gobind Singh's presence at Anandpur. Joga Singh's parents traveled to Anandpur to accompany him back to Peshawar, excited to see him married. Guru Gobind Singh permitted Bhai Joga Singh to leave, but he told him that he must return right away if he was summoned. When a Sikh handed the Guru's letter of recall to Bhai Joga Singh, he was in the middle of his wedding and had only completed two of the four circumambulations required. Despite his relatives' protests and impetus, Bhai Joga Singh abandoned the middle and started for Anandpur instantly. He gradually developed a sense of self-esteem and arrogance due to his prompt obedience to Guru's summons.
