Faisal Mosque
Located in the foothills of the Margalla Hills, Faisal Mosque is built over a huge area of 33 acres. It was finished a decade after work began in 1986. In 1988, it held its first prayer. The mosque bears the name of the late Saudi King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, who generously provided funds to help build it. Faisal Mosque is the fifth largest mosque in the world and the largest in South Asia. A competition was held to finalize the design of the mosque. The unorthodox design by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay was chosen. A Bedouin tent influences the design. The mosque has a capacity of 300 000 worshippers.
