Derawar Fort

Derawar Fort is a large square fortress in Ahmadpur East Tehsil, Punjab, Pakistan. Approximately 130 km south of the city of Bahawalpur, the forty bastions of Derawar are visible for many miles in the Cholistan Desert. The Hindu Rajput Bhati of Jaisalmer built the Derawar fort in the 9th century. Later, it was conquered by the Nawab of Bahawalpur. In 1747, they lost control of the fort, but in 1804, they captured the fort again. The fort walls are 30 meters high and made of bricks. It is located in a remote area, and before visiting, one needs to get permission from the Amir of Bahawalpur. The fort is decorated with blue tiles in various places. It was repaired from time to time by the nawab of Bahawalpur and was in its best shape. Archaeologists say this magnificent fort was built almost 800 years ago.
