Butkara Stupa

The Butkara Stupa is a significant Buddhist stupa in the Swat region of Pakistan, near Mingora. Although the Mauryan monarch Ashoka is thought to have built the Butkara stupa, it is typically dated to the second century BCE. During the next five centuries, the Butkara stupa was expanded five times, each time by enclosing and covering the previous structure.
