Nanga Parbat - Killer Mountain

Nanga Parbat - Killer Mountain

Located in the West of the Himalayan Mountain Range, Nanga Parbat is amongst the world’s highest mountain peaks, almost 9,000 meters tall. It shares the vicinity of the Astor region in the south of Kashmir. The slanted slope of Nanga Parbat is almost 16,000 feet and 5,000 meters above the Kashmir valley, and the northern part of the peak falls around 25,000 feet and 8,000 meters below the River Indus.

The word Nanga Parbat originated from the Urdu language, which literally means “Naked Mountain”. There is larger and multiple ranges of mountains in the Himalayan region, but Nanga Parbat stands solely and separately from other mountainous peaks. Nanga Parbat dominates its own premium presence incorporating a height of around 9,000 meters tall.

Nanga Parbat is locally known as Diamer and also has been nicknamed the “Killer Mountain” due to its high fatality rate. A mountaineer from Britain tried summiting Nanga Parbat in 1890 but failed in the first attempt and died right away. Numerous German mountaineers also lost the best of their lives in order to ascend Nanga Parbat because of the harsh severity of the weather over there. In 1960, an Australian mountaineer eventually was able to ascend Nanga Parbat and reached the peak successfully.

Nanga Parbat is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges of Pakistan, but it definitely comes with the highest amount of harm and peril especially in winters.
