My Travel Bucket List for South Punjab

  1. Bahawalpur
  2. Cholistan Desert
  3. Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya shrine, Multan
  4. Katas Raj, Chakwal district

I would like to visit all these places in South Punjab.

1) Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur is the capital city of Bahawalpur District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located on the left bank of the Sutlej River and it is also known as "Pakistan's largest city".

Bahawalpur is considered a tourist hub because there are several places where tourists can visit such as Gardens by the Bay (a botanical garden), National Museum and Library, etc., which are all located in this city.

2) Cholistan Desert

This is a large area of shifting dunes in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The Cholistan desert is in the Thar Desert bio-geographic zone between Rajasthan and Sindh provinces. It covers an area of approximately 8,000 square kilometers (3,200 sq mi) with an average elevation of about 500 meters (1,640 ft). It has been described as "the largest sandy desert on earth".

3) Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Shrine, Multan

  • Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Shrine is a Sufi shrine located in Multan, Pakistan. It is the burial place of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Ganjshakar (died 1031 CE), a Sufi saint and founder of the Suhrawardiyya order. The shrine was built by his disciples who were attracted to his spiritual power and fame as they had been healed by him while they were under his care during their illness.
  • The shrine has been visited by many people since it was built centuries ago but there are still many unknown facts about this place that can only be discovered after visiting it yourself!

4) Katas Raj, Chakwal district

Katas Raj is a complex of temples and pools located in the Chakwal district of Punjab, Pakistan. The Katas Rajputs were a prominent clan among the Hindu Rajputs who ruled from their capital at Katas Fort. The first temple was built here by Sheik Bakhsh during the 8th century A.D. when he was governor for Sultan Mahmud Ghazni; later on, many other temples were built by his son Sher Shah Suri (1545–1548).

Katas Raj is now considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Pakistan because it contains one of the largest collections of Hindu temples in South Asia.  It also houses an ancient Buddhist stupa, which archaeologists believe dates back to the 2nd century BCE or earlier.

Let’s visit these beautiful places by planning a road trip to South Punjab.

  • Plan your travel itinerary:
  • Decide on the length of time you want to spend in each destination, and whether or not you want to add any extra destinations during the trip. For example, if your primary purpose is sightseeing, it may be best not to include other activities such as hiking or cycling because those require more time than most people are willing or able to devote when traveling solo (or even with friends).
  • If possible pick up some maps from local tourist offices so that you know exactly where everything is located within an area that interests you most; this will save some hassle later on when trying out new places!

We have talked about some of the most beautiful places in South Punjab that you should visit. Let us know your plans for a trip to South Punjab soon!
