Majestic Peaks of K2

Majestic Peaks of K2

K2, also known as Mount Godwin Austin, is a well-known mountainous peak located in the Karakoram mountain range in the north of Pakistan. K2 stands at 22nd position amongst the most prominent and highest mountains in the world, with an elevating height of almost 29,000 feet and 9,000 km. The name “K2” is a collection of two origins. The alphabet “KJ” came from the famous Karakoram Range, and the digit “2” came from the fundamental fact that it is the second-highest peak in the world after Mount Everest.

There is no denying the fact that Mount Everest is even taller than K2. However, the mortality rate and exposure to peril are almost 30 times higher than that of Mount Everest. No mountaineer ever tries to summit K2 in winters, especially when deadly winds are blowing and the mortality rate exceeds the threshold of even 30%.

K2 has been termed as “Savage Mountain” because of the danger and high mortality rate of human life. It is located on Khunjerab Pass, which connects Pakistan and China. The only mountaineer to summit K2 was an Italian who ascends the mountain in 1956 since every climber to summit K2 is not successful and loses energy in the first half of the summit.

K2 depicts the real spirit of climbing but ascending it requires and demands fine expertise and technical skills, which is not the cup of tea of every mountaineer.
