Kharfaq Lake, one of the pristine sites in Khaplu Valley, is a high-altitude natural lake near Kharfaq village, Gilgit-Baltistan, in the Karakoram mountain range. “Riochug Tso” is another name for Kharfaq Lake in the local language. Kharfaq lake is one of the very few trout fishing points located in Khaplu. The lake has thousands of trout fish and desi fishes.
Kharfaq lake is 2 km away from the Kharfaq village. The trekking route is the only way there. This lake is also accessible from Khaplu Broq. Hiking way Khaplu to Kharfaq lake is the ancient route, by which locals used to travel. The best month for tourists to see the lake is July and August.
The lake’s water level began to rise in May and peaked in the middle of July. Snow blankets the landscape in its whiteness during the winter season, creating stunning views. Since no paved road has been built here yet, the lake has been inaccessible. For as long as anyone can recall, a road has been under construction here, only to be abandoned due to a lack of funds.

The Journey towards the Kharfaq Lake
