Katas Raj Temples Chakwal

Located in the plateau Potohar of the Punjab region in Pakistan, Katas Raj Temples is an interconnected range of Hindu temples demarcated by different paths and hallways. Katas Raj Temples are widely known as “Qila Katas” and are supposedly a holy place of worship for the Hindu community.

Katas Raj Temples are located in the vicinity of the Kallar Kahar Salt range in Punjab. This range of temples is dedicated and committed to religious leaders of the Hindu community that are Hanuman, Ram, and Lord Shiva. Katas Raj Temples are located around a large pond area which is said to be formed by the tear of Lord Shiva when he was holding and flying away with the dead body of his then deceased wife, Lady Sati. It is said in history that he shed two tears, one of them resulted in the formation of this pond around Katas Raj, and the other teardrop created another pond in Indian state Ajmer. Later on, the Pandavas community took over the place and created multiple ranges of Hindu temples after taking inspiration from Kashmiri architecture and designs in the 12th century.

After forts holiest site of Hindus that is Jawala Mukhi, Katas Raj stands to be the second most sacred place for the Hindu community in Punjab. For 1600 years, Katas Raj has been preserved and developed over time from the Buddhist time period to Britain power. The temples are made of cubical and square platforms with smaller to larger shrines inside them and a huge dome on the top of them.
